1921 — (8st of Elul, 5681) The first Moshav, Nahalal, was found in the Jezreel Valley. ….. Less famous than that other experiment in collective living called the Kibbutz, a moshav was «a village of smallholders in which elements of cooperative and private farming were combined. Nahal was the Biblical name of town in this area connected with the tribe of Zebulin. The Jezreel was an area of abundant water, but the water was often stagnant. The first fifteen years or so of settlement was spent draining the water to put an to the malarial swamps in the region
1938 — (15st of Elul, 5698) Six Jewish constables were ambushed by terrorists as they escorted a group of telephone workers traveling between Jaffa and Gaza. All six died but the workers escaped to the safety ofa nearby Jewish settlement. When the shooting stopped, it was discovered that the attackers had taken the weapons, ammunition and uniforms of the dead Jewish policemen

1951 (10 Elul 5711) The electric company introduced strict limitations on electricity consumption; residents were allowed to use light bulbs only up to 100 watts in living spaces and 60 watts on balconies and in bathrooms. 1952 — (21st of Elul, 5712) The Jerusalem Post reported that ….. in a secret, silent ceremony that lasted 13 minutes, Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett and West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer signed in Luxembourg an agreement under which the Bonn Government agreed to pay 3,450 million marks, in various goods, as reparations for the material damage suffered by Jews at the hands of the Nazis. The first goods were expected to arrive in 1953, but the much-needed oil, a part of the reparations deal, would arrive in Israel within weeks

2009 (22 Elul 5769) The newspaper «Haaretz» reported that archaeologists from the Israeli Antiquities Authority discovered remnants of one of the oldest synagogues in the world in the area of the Sea of Galilee, built between 50 BCE and 100 CE.
2011 (12 Elul 5771) Terrorist attack. Arabs burned the vineyard of the settlement Karmey Tzur, located north of Hebron in the Judean mountains, between the Gush Etzion junction and the city of Kiryat Arba, 60 km from Tel Aviv and 22 km from Jerusalem.
2024 (8 Elul 5784) War with Gaza. Day 341. As a result of a helicopter crash during the evacuation of a wounded soldier, reserve sergeant Daniel Alush, 37, and reserve sergeant Tom Ish-Shalom, 38, members of a Special Rescue Tactical Unit, were killed. A female pilot, a male pilot, and a flight engineer were severely injured. A military doctor and a reservist from the 669th rescue unit were severely wounded, and a medic was injured.

Born in London in 1772, Ricardo was the third of seventeen children in a Sephardic Jewish family that immigrated from The Netherlands to England just prior to his birth. At age 14 Ricardo’s joined his father at the London Stock Exchange. Ricardo rejected the orthodox Jewish beliefs of his family and eloped with Quaker, Priscilla Anne Wilkinson, when he was 21. His father was so unhappy with this that he abandoned Ricardo and never spoke to him again. Around the same time Ricardo became a Unitarian
1881 (17 Elul 5641) Yosef Chaim Brenner was born—Hebrew writer. He was killed in the pogrom in Jaffa on May 2, 1921.
